MONROE - The Monroe Balloon Rally celebrates its 26th anniversary this weekend, and the third year as the Monroe Balloon Rally Incorporated at the Green County Fairgrounds.
"It's an opportunity to put out the welcome mat for balloonists, to show that there are great things Monroe has to offer," event organizer Matt Urban said.
The event starts Friday, with gates opening to the public at 4 p.m.
Starting around 6 p.m. Friday, and again at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, the balloons will launch, weather permitting, and "tour the Green County landscape," Urban said.
A balloon glow will take place on the infield of the fairground track at 8:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. And the fairgrounds will also offer plenty of other activities, including live music, concessions, a classic car show and arts and crafts fair, during the rally. (A complete schedule of events, along with photos of the participating balloons and their sponsors, is on Page B8 of today's edition.)
Admission is free. Parking inside the fairgrounds is $3.
More information is available at the balloon rally website, monroeballoonrally.com. The rally also has a Facebook page for last-minute updates.
