WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin announced that she has been named to serve on the Senate Approp-riations Comm-ittee. The Senate Approp-riations Committee is responsible for deciding how the federal government spends money.

"I am proud to be named to the Senate Appropriations Committee and I look forward to bringing our Wisconsin values to the national conversation about how we invest in moving our economy forward," Baldwin said in a news release. "Our economy in Wisconsin is lagging, so my top priority is working to build a strong "Made in Wisconsin' economy that creates economic growth and shared prosperity for our state."

Previously, Sen. Herb Kohl served on the Senate Appropriations Committee from 1993 to 2013. Congressman Dave Obey served as chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations from 1994 to 1995 and 2007 to 2011.

Baldwin's appointment will take effect when the 114th Congress begins its session in January. She will also continue to serve on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, the Senate Budget Committee, and the U.S. Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
