MONROE - Two members of Congress will be having town hall meetings locally in the next 10 days regarding the federal efforts to reform health care.

One representative will be on the phone, the other in person.

Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, will have four telephone town meetings, two on Monday and two on Tuesday. The Monday meetings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m., Tuesday's are at 5:50 and 7:30 p.m. Each call will last one hour.

"Telephone town halls do not supplant in-person town hall meetings," said Jerilyn Goodman, Baldwin's press secretary. "But given the importance of health care reform and the public interest, we're using the medium to include many, many people at one time."

In each hour, Baldwin will make an opening statement, then answer a select number of callers' questions. To participate, you must contact Baldwin's office at (608) 258-9800.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, will include Darlington among five scheduled town hall meetings - including one telephone town hall - this month. Kind will be in the conference room at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Kind is a member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, which oversees Medicare.

"Health care reform is a serious issue that needs an immediate solution, which I look forward to discussing with the people in the district," Kind said in a news release. "Costs continue to rise, as do the number of uninsured as our country faces an economic crisis."

Kind's telephone town hall is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25. Interested constituents may dial in by calling (toll-free) 1-877-229-8493 and entering the code 13433.
