FREEPORT — Judd Thruman, lifelong Northwest Illinois resident and respected local attorney, has officially announced his candidacy for Resident Circuit Judge in Stephenson County. He will be running as a Republican in the March 17, 2026, primary election, following the retirement of the Hon. James M. Hauser who will be ending 20 years of service in December 2026.
With over 25 years of legal experience, Thruman has built a law practice grounded in integrity, fairness, and relentless hard work. As a partner at Fishburn Whiton Thruman Ltd., he has counseled families, farmers, businesses, and local governments, including prosecution of municipal cases. He has also held leadership roles with community organizations, including as Chairman of the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves on the boards of Foresight Bank and Foresight Financial Group.
“I have great respect for the judges currently serving in Stephenson County,” said Thruman. “I am running for Resident Circuit Judge because I have the work ethic, integrity, and legal experience to fairly and effectively serve our community for years to come. Justice must be fair, firm, and respectful of every individual who comes before the court. I will listen to all sides, apply the law impartially as written, and uphold the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.”
Thruman added that he is deeply humbled by the encouragement and support he has already received.
“The backing of many judges, the Stephenson County State’s Attorney, the Public Defender, Sheriff and law enforcement, as well as local attorneys, elected officials, business leaders, and neighbors means so much to me. Words cannot express how truly blessed I feel by their confidence in my candidacy, and I will work tirelessly to confirm the trust that so many have already given,” he said.
A resident of rural McConnell, Thruman has been married to his wife, Misty, for more than 20 years, and they are the proud parents of two adult children.
“Trusted. Dedicated. Impartial. That is the type of judge I will be,” Thruman said. “I look forward to serving the people of Stephenson County as their next Resident Circuit Judge.”
