Photo submitted Yester Years by Joe Simonette of Monroe was the recipient of a State Award at the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program Competition held in April at the Monroe Arts Center.
MONROE - The judging for the 2011 Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP) Competition has taken place and both the State and Honorable Mention winners announced.

At the beginning of April, guest artist and judge Carolyn Mastroianni of Freeport, chose a total of sixteen artists to receive these special awards.

This was the 24th consecutive year the Monroe Arts Center (MAC) has hosted the program for non-professional artists.

This program is co-sponsored by the UW-Madison Department of Liberal Studies.

The State Award winners were: Sally Conway, Beloit; Tom Fjelstad, Mt Horeb; Charlotte Heikkinen, Clinton; Barbara Leonard, Janesville; Nancy McKinnon, Janesville; Joe Simonette, Monroe; Helen Stauffer, Monroe; and David Waldera, Menomonie.

Artists given Honorable Mention awards were: David Carpenter, Madison; Roger Doreen, Apple River, Illinois; Susan Ivanhoe, Monroe; Jane Crèche Olson, New Glarus; Mike McKinnon, Janesville; Donna Miller, Madison; Dara Porter, Brodhead, and Robert Williams, Janesville.

All State Award winning artworks selected at each of the Wisconsin regional exhibit locations this past year will again be juried at the Annual State Art Exhibition and Conference on Saturday September 24, at the Pyle Center in Madison.

The Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, along with private individuals and local art clubs, fund the numerous cash and service awards presented at the State Conference. These awards include the James Schwalbach Creativity Award, Lodi Art Club Award, Ada Biddick Award, Certificate of Merit Awards, and many others.
