MONROE - Louis Armstrong has withdrawn his request for a recount in the Ward 7 election, City Clerk Carol Stamm said Thursday.
Armstrong lost to incumbent Alderman Thurston Hanson in an 87-81vote in the election Tuesday.
Armstrong said his initial request for a recount was curiosity.
"Once I found out what it would cost the city, I decided it wasn't worth my curiosity," Armstrong said. "One of the reasons I went for the council was to reduce costs."
Stamm said costs for a recount come mostly from needing the city attorney present, which would amount to about $300.
The Municipal Board of Canvassers confirmed the spring election results Wednesday.
Members of the board are Stamm, Police Chief Fred Kelley and Stephanie Bachim.
