Argyle man sentenced for 5th OWI

DARLINGTON — An Argyle man with four prior convictions of drunken driving was sentenced last month for his fifth offense to one year in jail with Huber work-release privileges and five years on probation.

Chad J. Berget, 43, pleaded guilty March 12 to the fifth-offense charge operating while intoxicated, a Class G felony with a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

According to the criminal complaint, Berget was observed driving from Louisa Street to Washington Street and parking outside Annie’s Bar on Sept. 20 in Darlington. 

An officer reported seeing him park the car and exit the vehicle.

As conditions of his sentence, Berget is required to wear an alcohol electronic monitoring device any time he is not in jail. 

He is also ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol or other drug abuse and to not possess or consume alcohol, nonprescription controlled substances or any prescription medicine not prescribed to him.

His license is revoked three years.

The criminal complaint identified four prior OWI convictions for Berget, from March 2006, September 2008, May 2016 and May 2011.
