MONROE - The Green County Milk Quality Council, in cooperation with UW Extension, will be sponsoring its 28th Annual Green County Dairy Management Seminar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Green County UW-Extension Office, 2841 6th St., Monroe.
The featured speakers for this year's program will include Dr. Mike Hutjens, professor emeritus in dairy science from the University of Illinois, who will discuss 10 key performance indicators that dairy managers can use to improve the health and performance of transition and dry cows. He will also give a presentation on feeding high-producing cows in 2016.
Dr. Paul Fricke, reproduction specialist from the University of Wisconsin dairy science department, will discuss new tools and management practices for achieving 30 percent conception rates in 30,000-pound dairy herds.
Mark Mayer, UW Extension dairy and livestock agent, also will provide an overview of the tools available from the UW Dairyland Initiatives Program to help increase cow comfort and milk production when building new or remodeling existing dairy facilities.
Due to sponsorships by many local businesses, the advance registration fee is only $5 and includes lunch. Registrations are due to the Green County UW Extension office by Monday. An additional $3 late fee will be charged for registrations received after this date.
Enrollment is limited to the first 60 participants who register.
