BRODHEAD - As part of the annual Covered Bridge Days - Aug. 12 to 14 - the first annual Wildflower Festival and Wildflower Art Festival will be held in celebration of the many native plantings that have been developed around the community.
The Art Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Veteran's Park, on Wisconsin 11 next to the depot museum, Brodhead. A juried, fine-art show featuring artists from around the area displaying and selling their work will be held. Artwork will include wildflower or nature-themed art, as well as media of all kinds: painting, wood, glass, ceramics, fiber, jewelry, and photography.
Artwork from some of the artists who will be exhibiting can be seen on display in the windows of the law office of Consigny, Andrews, Hemming & Grant, next to Pinnow Pharmacy, 1st Center Ave. Brodhead.
The Wildflower Festival will also feature guided walking tours of the native plantings of Brodhead Public Library and Brodhead School District, to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.
There will also be a presentation and book signing by Steve Apfelbaum, author of "Nature's Second Chance: Restoring the Ecology of Stone Prairie Farm" and "Restoring Ecological Health to Your Land," at 10:30 a.m. at the library.
At 4 p.m., there will be a slide presentation at the library followed by another guided walking tour of the library and school district plantings.
At 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, there will be a guided walking tour through the native plantings at the Congregational UCC Church, 201 E. 23rd St.
Participants may drive directly to the church or ride on a tractor-drawn wagon from the tractor pull area behind McDonald's. At 4 p.m., there will be a slide show at the UCC Church, followed by another walking tour through their prairie.
