'Amazing' local turnout for presidential primary

Wisconsin Primary Results

DEMOCRATS

Barack Obama: 645,554 (58 percent), 38 delegates won

Hillary Clinton: 452,590 (41 percent), 27 delegates won

REPUBLICANS

John McCain: 224,122 (55 percent), 31 delegates won

Mike Huckabee: 151,114 (37 percent), 0 delegates won

Ron Paul: 19,129 (5 percent), 0 delegates won

MONROE - About 55 percent of Green County registered voters turned out to vote Tuesday in Wisconsin's presidential primary, according to Green County Clerk Mike Doyle.

Doyle was expecting a registered voter turnout of 35 percent. He said he was pleased the number of voters exceed his expectations.

"It's amazing," Doyle said this morning.

Green County voters gave Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, about 59 percent of the votes to almost 40 percent for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D- New York. Obama received 4,321 votes to 2,898 for Clinton.

On the Republican side, Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, received 1,113 votes, about 49 percent, to 989, about 44 percent, for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.

In Monroe, Obama received 1,197, about 58 percent, to 827 votes, about 40 percent, for Clinton.

Other results between Obama and Clinton include:

• Albany - Obama 122, Clinton 87.

• Browntown - Obama 26, Clinton 18.

• Monticello - Obama 145, Clinton 121.

• New Glarus - Obama 379, Clinton 223.

• Brodhead - Obama 302, Clinton 219.

In the Republican primary, McCain received 328 votes, about 53 percent, in Monroe compared to 247, about 40 percent, for Huckabee.

Other results between McCain and Huckabee include:

• Albany - McCain 27, Huckabee 9.

• Browntown, McCain 12, Huckabee 6.

• Monticello - Huckabee 41, McCain 36.

• New Glarus - McCain 73, Huckabee 52.

• Brodhead - Huckabee 103, McCain 71.

In Lafayette County, Obama received 1,662 votes to 1,347 for Clinton. Obama won in Blanchardville, South Wayne, Darlington and Shullsburg. Clinton won in Gratiot by three votes, 32-29.

Huckabee received 502 votes in Lafayette County to 463 for McCain.
