BELLEVILLE - A Belleville man was arrested Wednesday several hours after a number of local police units responded to an Exeter Township home where he allegedly had been threatening another man.
Gerald M. Erpelding, 48, of Belleville was arrested at the home at about 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 7000 block of County CC, about five miles south of Belleville. He was taken into custody shortly after the Monroe Police Department Emergency Response Team and the Green County Sheriff's Department canine and handler entered the residence. Erpelding was found on the first floor attempting to conceal himself.
He's been charged with battery and disorderly conduct while armed. Erpelding had been armed with a kitchen utensil and scissors.
At about 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Green County Sheriff's Dispatch received a 9-1-1 cell phone call from a male caller who said he was outside of the home and reported another male had threatened him. Sheriff's deputies immediately responded, along with officers from the New Glarus and Belleville police departments.
Preliminary information indicates the caller was visiting the home and had a disagreement with another adult male, who reportedly also was visiting. The caller indicated he was in the home when the other male made threats directed at him with a sharp object in his hand. The reporting male left the home and called 9-1-1.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said in a news release there's no reason to believe a firearm was involved.
The suspect, Erpelding, was contained in the home until authorities entered the residence and arrested him.
