Albany Schools receive $59k DOJ safety grant

ALBANY — Albany Public School was awarded $59, 811 by the Department of Justice. A total of $100,000,000 was made available through the School Safety Initiative to local schools in Wisconsin to support projects designed to improve K-12 school safety. Authority for this program is 2017 Wisconsin Act 143 which states that: the department of justice shall award grants for expenditures related to improving school safety. 

The project at Albany School will include electronic door access to the main entrances, shatterproof film installation to main entrances and an upgrade to the camera security system. Approximately 21 new cameras will be installed along with the infrastructure needed. The school partners with local law enforcement in efforts to improve school safety, they will also now have access to the cameras which will be located in public areas in and around the building. 

The school has also submitted their intent to the Department of Justice for the second round of safety grant funds which would focus on a secure entrance. These funds are administered by DOJ, in consultation with the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and other state and local partner agencies.
