ALBANY - Computer savvy? Like speaking to large groups of people? The Albany school district may need you.
The Albany school board Thursday night approved creating a part-time public relations position for the district. District Administrator Steve Guenther said the job would be posted today.
Guenther said the person hired will help the district keep the public informed of district issues and expenditures.
"We're a public servant, and we want to keep people aware of what's going on here so people know what they're paying for," Guenther said.
The person filling the position likely will work between five and 10 hours a week updating the district's Web site and covering school events for publication on the site, through newspapers and in newsletters.
Guenther said the position will be a paid one, but probably will not be hourly. The district may pay the person a set amount per week regardless of hours worked and monitor the productivity of the person to determine if the pay matches the workload.
Guenther said part of the reason the district wanted to turn a board member's idea into a reality was the board's recent decision to downsize the administrative staff from three people to two.
"We would like this person to be someone who's got some background and training in computer programming," Guenther said. "And we'd like to get someone who likes to speak to the public."
Guenther said the district would like to interview candidates the first week or two in January and have someone in place by the end of the month.
