MONROE - State Rep. Brett Davis, R-Oregon, recently received an honorary state FFA degree from the state FFA association.

The honorary degree is the highest award given to people who advance the FFA organization. Davis was honored for his work to enact a bill that created the Ag Education Council, as well as his overall involvement with education.

Davis said he was honored to receive the award.

"Agriculture is extremely important in driving and growing Wisconsin's economy by generating over $50 billion and providing over 420,000 jobs statewide," Davis said.

Davis also was appointed to the newly formed Ag Education and Workforce Development Council by Wisconsin Agriculture Sec. Rod Nilsestuen.

The council is designed to help provide a qualified work force to support Wisconsin's agriculture. The program is funded through donations. The group includes people with a broad range of education and business organizations and interests.

Davis said he looks forward to working with the council to keep Wisconsin a leader in agriculture.
