MONROE - Plans are already under way for the 2008 Green County Dairy Breakfast on the Farm.
This year's event will be held at the farm of Joe Schwarzenberger IV and his wife, Lourie. The farm is located at W3894 Wisconsin 11/81.
The breakfast is May 31 and begins, as always, at 6 a.m.
Schwarzenberger has lived on his family's farm his whole life, he said; the farm has been in his family since 1927.
He and his wife have never hosted the event but decided this year they wanted to.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said.
As in the past the breakfast will include scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, coffee cake and strawberry sundaes.
Arts and crafts, a petting zoo and live entertainment will also be featured.
More than 5,000 people from across the area are expected to attend this year's event.
It takes about three months of preparation and organization to get enough food to feed a crowd the size of the one that comes to the breakfast. About 200 volunteers prepare the food and make the breakfast possible.
To make enough food for all the visitors, volunteers use about 1,500 pounds of precooked sausage, 480 pounds of cheese, 1,800 dozen eggs, 5,500 cartons of orange juice, 390 half-gallons of ice cream mix, 200 coffee cakes and 16 30-pound jugs of strawberries.
There will be a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 10 at Schwarzenberger's farm for anyone interested in helping and joining one of the many committees needed to organize the event.
