MONROE - A new, cooperative advertising campaign has been launched to showcase Monroe and New Glarus.

Advertising will appear in various newspapers and radio spots, said Noreen Rueckert, Green County tourism director, speaking on the issue during the Green County Tourism Committee meeting on Monday.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald will run an ad themed "Cheese Lovers in Paradise." The ad also will run in Terrain Tracks and Wisconsin Travel Guide.

"I just think it's a great idea," said Sue Disch, Tourism Committee member. "I'm glad it can happen."

The Destination Brand Joint Effort Marketing grant also was discussed by the committee, which plans to work with North Star Destination Strategies to develop a research-based brand identity.

As part of the effort, North Star will be making trips to interview different businesses and community leaders from Monroe, New Glarus, Monticello, Albany, Brodhead and Belleville.

This will help them to gather valuable marketing information to help target potential audiences, according officials.

The company also will be developing an educational brochure and website about the area. Rueckert hopes to make a formal presentation on the grant in the near future.
