Action postponed until new members seated

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead school board Wednesday postponed two items on its agenda until new members elected April 6 take office later this month.

Write-in candidates Allen Schneider and Paul Donovan received 1,277 and 1,108 votes, respectively, April 6. Incumbents Carol Kloepping and Peggy Olsen received 815 and 644 votes, respectively.

The school board will have its organizational meeting April 26. A new president, vice president, clerk and treasurer will be elected. Board members will also talk about committee assignments then.

The board considered a new policy that would allow citizens to address the board. Members discussed how much time to allow people to speak at meetings and how long people should speak. However, no action was taken.

Board members suggested the board wait to finalize any new policies.

Board member Jim Wahl said any new policy should include ideas from the two newly-elected members.

Similar action was taken in regard to creating a district finance committee.

Board member Mike Krupke said the new board members should have input about the finance committee.

In other business, the board learned the official result for the April 6 referendum was 1,255 "no" votes and 960 "yes votes.
