MONROE - "Local Goodness" is the theme of a 6-by-6 art exhibit and sale that will be part of "A Taste of Spring," a fundraising dinner event at Monroe Arts Center Monday.
Six-by-6 exhibits are a popular "small art phenomenon," allowing artists to use a variety of mediums to design petite, yet iconic pieces, event organizers said.
Sue Barrett, chairperson for the "A Taste of Spring" event, said she is pleased with the variety of the pieces that have been created and how the artists conceptualized the theme.
Creativity abounds in the 50 or so 6-by-6 panels that have been submitted in acrylic, oil, watercolor and colored pencil. Some artists used the 6-inch canvas as a platform for three-dimensional works in glass, ceramic, mixed media and wood.
The canvases each have opening bids of $35 or the "buy it now" set fee of $50. Several artists submitted a series of two or three panels, which can be purchased separately or as companion pieces. Names are not on the front of the pieces and artists remain anonymous until the bidding is completed.
In addition to the 6-by-6 panels and a silent auction, "A Taste of Spring" includes a live auction including original art, themed dining experiences and getaway packages up for bid. The highlight of the evening is an elegant five-course dinner to be prepared by Chef Sarah Jarrett of Laughing Trout, with a fusion of upscale fare along with wine to accompany each course. The cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m.
Individual tickets are $75 ($45 tax deductible), and tables of eight are $500 ($260 tax deductible).
