A Place in History: Schultz Pharmacy
1313a.jpg
The building that now houses Schultz Pharmacy at 1008 17th Ave. has a long history of housing drugstores.

William F. Trukenbrod followed his father in the pharmacy business started by Mr. Eilert on March 26, 1873. After Eilert's death in 1892, Trukenbrod operated the pharmacy in the Treat Block on the east side of the Square, where the Waffle Shop later was located.

Trukenbrod's pharmacy moved to its new building at 1008 17th Ave. in 1894. Son Will E. Trukenbrod entered the business in 1900 and continued operating the pharmacy until his death in 1947.

When it was constructed, a stove produced the only heat for the building.

There was a door on the north side which led to a room where paint products for sale were stored. This later was closed off and the north room then housed Knipschild's barbershop.
