A Place in History: Cadiz Center School
1657a.jpg
The first Cadiz Center School was built where the present Lawver Road meets County B. A new school was built on the center of Cadiz Hill to replace the old one. This school was west of the old Cadiz Town Hall, but it was so close to the dangerous curve on the hill; there was no place for a good playground.

The February 1923 issue of the Green County School Bulletin stated that there were plans made to do extensive improvements to the school during the summer.

In 1926 the school board purchased land from George Lawver east of the school and the schoolhouse was moved to a new location, W8445 County B. A basement was dug and cloakrooms were added to the original structure. A furnace was installed.

In the early 60s the people voted to become attached to the South Wayne School District. The school operated for a year or two after this under the jurisdiction of the South Wayne district. Some of the families later petitioned to become attached to and attend the Monroe School District.

After the building was vacated, Cadiz Township purchased the building back from the South Wayne School District. It has served as the Cadiz Town Hall since that time.
