MONROE - Six Appeal Vocal Band will take the Monroe Arts Center stage at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in the Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall.

Despite their cheeky group name, these six young gentlemen provide a good-natured atmosphere for their electrifying performance. They are known for their vivid musical style, unmatched energy and playful charm.

Swearing off instruments, Six Appeal's electrifying a cappella singing spans decades of classic oldies, current chart toppers and catchy original tunes in the pop, country, classic rock, jazz, and rhythm and blues music genres. The band offers unbelievable vocal dexterity, adventurous song selection, on-stage antics and energetic choreography.

Six Appeal began as a collegiate hobby in 2006 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Performing around campus was a great way to relax from classes, create a new sound on campus, and, yes, meet girls. As the group evolved into a professional ensemble in 2010, Six Appeal began to introduce new members, transforming their sound and focus into the current dynamic sextet.

Originally from Kansas, Minnesota, Florida and North Dakota, the members of Six Appeal are Andrew Berkowitz (vocal percussionist), Michael Brookens (mid-tenor), Nathan Hickey (baritone), Reuben Hushagen (bass), Trey Jones (low tenor) and Jordan Roll (high tenor). Each member is formally instructed in singing and musical composition, have more than 70 combined years of musical training and experience and utilize a diverse arsenal of style and entertainment. They have a passion for spreading their a cappella music to every audience, and an essential aspect of their mission is to empower young singers through their educational outreach program.

In 2012, Six Appeal won the championship title at the National Harmony Sweepstakes, the premier American showcase for vocal harmony music, which draws from hundreds of vocal groups from around the country with regional competitions in eight cities. In addition, they have performed nationwide and sang at the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl on ESPN.

While in Monroe, Six Appeal will conduct two vocal workshops for the Monroe High School Fine Arts Festival. The workshops provide an opportunity for students to interact with a professional vocal band where they will have hands-on experiences to develop skills such as critical listening, healthy vocal technique, intonation and rhythm. The Fine Arts Festival culminates with a performance by Six Appeal in an all-school assembly.

So, what makes these six stand-out from the crowd? It's their appeal.

Reserved seat tickets are $25 and $20 for adults and $10 for students 18 and under. As a bonus, all Six Appeal ticket holders are invited to a free pre-concert party (cash bar) from 6 to 7 p.m. in the downstairs lobby of MAC's new addition. Concert tickets may be purchased at the Monroe Arts Center box office located at 1315 11th Street, by calling 608-325-5700 or online at monroeartscenter.com.

The concert is supported by corporate underwriter Colony Brands Inc. and media underwriters Morris Publishing of Monroe and Big Radio.
