MONROE — Another convicted sex offender from Monroe has been arrested in connection with the case of another defendant arrested on an additional sex charge while on work-release from a jail sentence.
Police said the second arrest was attributable to an investigation launched during the first, in which 19-year-old convicted sex offender Isaiah W. Cook, was taken in to custody in early June.
Cook was alleged to be “engaged in an indecent act within a vehicle parked in the Green County Jail parking lot,” according to Green County Sheriff’s Office statement, released shortly after the initial arrest.
Meanwhile, Charles E. Jaeger, 27, also faces sex offense-related charges as detailed in a follow-up press release on the parking lot incident. He was charged with three counts of felony bail jumping and three counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.
How the two defendants are connected, and what Jaeger did to prompt his arrest, remains unclear and Chief Deputy John M. Schuetz said he would have no further comment on the cases.
On the new charges, a $2,500 signature bond was signed for Cook on June 10, records indicate. And a $2,000 signature bond was signed for Jaeger last Thursday, according to court documents. Still, both men remain jailed, according to a deputy there.
Jaeger also has a Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections hold.
Like Cook, Jaeger has a previous sex crime conviction in Wisconsin. According to the sheriff’s office and court records, he was convicted of Possess an Intimate Representation (victim under 18 years old).
He pleaded no contest to the charge in May 2021 before Circuit Judge James R. Beer.
Cook is scheduled to appear in Green County Circuit Court again June 23 for a preliminary hearing, while Jaeger’s next appearance is set for June 25. Huber privileges for Cook were revoked.
In the release, the department said the investigation “remains active.”
