8th/9th Street Reconstruction Project Update

During the week of April 18, Dane County Contracting installed 600 feet of water main along 9th Street from 14th Avenue to 15th Avenue including stubbing the water main, north and south, out of the intersections of 13th and 14th Avenue. Rock Road Companies started the installation of 18-inch and 15-inch concrete storm sewer pipe from Wisconsin 69 to 8th Avenue along 8th Street.

Next week, Dane County Contracting will continue with the water main installation along 9th Street from 15th Avenue working towards 16th Avenue. Once they get up to 16th Avenue with the water main, Dane County Contracting will stop the water main installation and go back to the intersection of 11th Avenue and 9th Street, west of the Senior Center, to begin with sanitary sewer installation along 9th Street. They will install sanitary sewer services up to the property line (back of sidewalk) and reconnect water services up to the terrace as they work down the street toward 16th Avenue.

Next week, Rock Road Companies will continue with storm sewer installation along 8th Street from 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue. After the new storm sewer is installed, they will excavate the subsoil of the street for the installation of new street base. This area should take about two weeks before they move onto the next section of storm sewer installation and street excavation.

All intersections will remain open for cross traffic the majority of the time, except when they have to install utilities through the intersection. The intersections will be completely barricaded when this is happening, as well as partial closure at their prior intersection. Otherwise, the barricades will be offset to allow for cross traffic.
