8th Street Update: 8th Street work progresses, night closures to continue

Progress continued this week with contractors focusing on the center construction zone between 2nd Avenue and Wisconsin 69.

Contractors worked multiple nights removing the existing pavement and placing new stone while deteriorated sanitary manholes were removed and replaced. During the day, lining crews cleaned and televised underground sanitary lines in preparation for lining and concrete crews poured new curb and concrete pavement near the intersection of Wis. 69.

Next week will bring more underground work with crews focusing their efforts on rehabilitating the existing sanitary sewer through a process called lining. Lining is a trenchless rehabilitation process which allows us to install new sanitary sewer within the existing system, thereby minimizing disruptions to traffic and local businesses. Lining is expected to take place throughout the week while grading crews prepare the south lane for asphalt paving.

Nighttime work will continue next week, and 8th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. However, side roads will continue to remain open to allow access to the local businesses.
