MONROE - A semi tractor-trailer unloading deliveries at Blain's Farm and Fleet on 8th Street early this morning caught a power line, pulling it down and dragging two other poles with it.
There was a live-wire but it was contained and power shut off before it could harm anyone. TDS, Alliant Energy and Charter all responded to fix the poles. As of 10 a.m., there was still one power pole down and 8th Street remained blocked off from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue.
"The lines got caught on the trailer unit and it pulled down one and then there was a sort of domino effect pulling down two more," Monroe Police Captain Jerry Dahlen said.
Dahlen said the area should be cleared sometime in the afternoon Thursday. Dahlen was unsure what energy customers would be affected by the accident.
