MONROE - Monroe Post Carriers collected 8,395 pounds of food from donations left at mailboxes during the Stamp Out Hunger event Saturday, May 12.
Donations raised will go to local community food pantries.
"For 20 years our carriers, volunteers and neighbors have come together to make a difference in the community," said Monroe Supervisor Renee Jordan. "This clearly demonstrates the generosity of our community and the commitment of our employees to make a difference in people's lives.'
Stamp Out Hunger, the nation's largest one-day food drive, collects non-perishable food to help more than 37 million people who face hunger every day in America.
Partners of this year's drive include Campbell Soup Company, Feeding America, United Way, AFL-CIO, Valpak, AARP, Uncle Bob's Self Storage and the National Rural Letter Carrier's Association.
