SOUTH WAYNE - At least three candidates are being considered for superintendent of the Black Hawk school district.

Interim Superintendent Peter Etter said Wednesday morning that the school board could set up interviews with three candidates at its meeting Monday, which was rescheduled from Feb. 11.

The candidates are:

• Eric Franzen, a science teacher with proper certification at Waukesha North High School.

• Roger Kordus, the middle school associate principal in the New Richmond school district.

• Chris Thomalla, superintendent of the Elcho school district.

Etter said he received 11 applications for the position, including two after the final three candidates had been selected.

"We're pretty fortunate that a school district as small as we are can attract 11 applications," Etter said. "That says something about this district."

The two new applicants are from Monroe and Freeport, but Etter would not share their names, schools or positions.

Their applications will be considered, and Etter said he will recommend the board conduct interviews of the three, or possibly more, candidates on March 1 and 8.

"The district is using me as a one-man screening committee," Etter said. "I am setting this up, and I want to play by the book."
