MONROE — A 15-year-old driver was cited for five infractions after a crash late Sunday, June 2, that injured a 14-year-old and damaged a fence on a rural road southwest of Monroe.

Deputies were called to the Monroe Clinic ER at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday after the 14-year-old showed up at the ER with injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office. The teen had been transported to the ER by private vehicle.

Deputies eventually located the two other occupants of the vehicle.

The accident had happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the N1500 block of Steiner Road, Town of Cadiz, deputies learned.

The 15-year-old driver from Monroe had failed to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control. The vehicle left the road and hit a fence, causing damage to the fence and a fence post. The vehicle was then driven back onto the road and left the scene. It was later located in Monroe.

The 14-year-old passenger was the only person injured in the vehicle. The driver and a 16-year-old passenger reported no injuries.

None of the teens was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver was cited for driving without a license, failure to keep a vehicle under control, failure of a vehicle operator to notify police of an accident, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to have a passenger wear a seatbelt.

The 16-year-old passenger, also a Monroe resident, was cited for obstructing an officer, failure of a vehicle occupant to notify police of an accident and failure to wear a seatbelt.
