MONROE - A 14-year-old Monroe boy was cited for driving without a license Tuesday after he crashed a vehicle just south of the city trying to avoid hitting a bird, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.
The boy was southbound at about 2:45 p.m. in the N2200 block of Jeffrey Road in the Town of Clarno when a large bird flew up out of the ditch, Deputy Bernie Roidt reported. The boy swerved to avoid the bird, veered into the east ditch and collided with a tree. The vehicle overturned.
The driver and his two passengers, a 14-year-old and 15-year-old from Monroe, were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle was severely damaged and towed.
The Monroe Police and Fire Departments and Green County EMS assisted deputies at the scene of the crash. A Town of Clarno patrolman also assisted.
The boy was released pending court.
