BRODHEAD - Three were injured, two seriously, in a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on State Highway 11/81, just west of Mt. Hope Road in the Town of Spring Grove.

According to Green County Sheriff's officials, an eastbound car driven by Timothy J. Schwalbach, 52, of Mukwonago crossed the center line at about 3:20 p.m. and struck a semi trailer driven by Ricky L. Westendorf, 43, of Rockford. After the initial impact, Schwalbach's vehicle continued eastbound and struck another vehicle driven by Michael D. Homan, 37, of Brodhead.

Schwalbach and Homan's vehicles suffered severe damage. Homan, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported from the scene by Janesville EMS. Schwalbach, wearing a seat belt, was transported by Green County EMS, and then flown by Med Flight for treatment. A passenger in Schwalbach's vehicle, Marianne F. Zubek, 44, of Brodhead, also was transported by Med Flight. It is unclear whether she was wearing a seat belt. Officials charged Schwalbach with operating under the influence causing injury.

Westendorf, the truck driver, was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.

In addition to the Green County deputies, other agencies responding included state police, and Brodhead Fire and EMS.
