1 injured, 1 arrested in separate hunting incidents

NEW GLARUS - Law enforcement officials responded to two hunting-related incidents Saturday, one that injured a Lafayette County hunter.

New Glarus Police took into custody Nicholas D. Reider, 19, Monroe, following an investigation of a shooting incident at about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Wisconsin 69.

Police report Reider fired several shots at deer, and two of the shots struck the Judd's Auto Body building. Officers located Reider, took him into custody and confiscated his shotgun. An investigation into the shooting is continuing. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted in the investigation. Charges are pending.

Also, Robert Miller, 18, Benton suffered facial injuries when his weapon malfunctioned at about 4 p.m. Saturday on County J in Benton township. Lafayette County Sheriff's deputies, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource agents, Benton First Responders and Cuba City Ambulance responded to the scene.

Miller was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
