BRODHEAD — The only ballot race in the Tuesday, February 17 spring primary was for the City of Brodhead Mayor. Four candidates were in the race, with the top two advancing to the April 7 spring election.
A total of 509 votes were cast, with Jill Baxter (163 votes, 32.15%) and Troy Nyman (144 votes, 28.40%) advancing. Baxter currently serves as a city alderman at large.
Edward Casey Jones (130 votes, 25.64%) and Thomas L. Simpson (70 votes, 13.81%) finished third and fourth, respectively. Simpson is the current mayor, having been elected to served in 2024.
Many more races will be on district ballots throughout Wisconsin on Tuesday, April 7. Locally, mayoral decisions will be made by voters for both Monroe and Brodhead, as well as township supervisors, city councils, village boards and other posts. Several area schools will be asking constituents for increased funding via operational referendums, trying to fill the growing gap of underpaid state funds.
