Corrine for 17 Senate District Meet and Greets and Music events
Corrine Hendrickson

NEW GLARUS — Corrine Hendrickson, a former family child care business owner of 18 years, is running for Wisconsin State Senate and will be stopping in a community near you all across the 17th Senate District.

Corrine is running to fight for policies that will bring meaningful relief to the hardworking families in the Senate District. Her dad worked on a dairy farm until she was a teenager, her mom owned a family child care, but had to close when the family needed to obtain employer sponsored health insurance. She has experience working with both state and federal lawmakers creating and amending policies for child care, early education, and special education for all children for over a decade. In February 2023, she testified before the US Small Business Committee’s hearing: From Nothing to Something; the story of the American Dream. She co-founded Wisconsin Early Childhood Action Needed, which has grown to 2500 child care professionals, small business owners, parents, farmers, and community members. During the last budget session WECAN was instrumental in building a broad coalition of advocacy groups to fight for investments in our public schools, child care, Badgercare postpartum expansion, and prison reform.

Corrine has a Bachelor’s of Science in Education (Prek-6th grade) and a Masters in Early Childhood Education Policy, both from UW-Whitewater. Corrine also has her Master’s Certificate in Infant Early Childhood Family Mental Health from UW-Madison. If elected, she would be the only State Senator with a Bachelor’s in Education, and since public education has been defunded in budget after budget, it is imperative that her voice is at the table to fight for appropriate investments in our children and schools. This will lower housing costs for everyone as our local property taxes wouldn’t unfairly be footing the bill. She served on her local school board until her husband took on the role of Volunteer Fire Chief of the New Glarus Fire Department where he has been a volunteer for 22 years. The fire department frequently assists on EMS calls so she has first hand experience the impact the lack of state funding has had on those local services as well.

Her sons have both been officers in FFA as well as in the band and pit for the high school musical. Her oldest showed dairy cows at the Green County fair over three summers. She was also a Cub Scout Pack Leader for several years and helped to rebuild the local scout troop during her tenure. She believes that our environment and access to public lands is imperative to healthy communities and will work to rebuild Wisconsin’s robust public lands and Department of Natural Resources to ensure we all can get out and enjoy nature. Furthermore, her youngest son is currently working on his Eagle Scout project of building tent sites in a new conservation area in SW Wisconsin. In her spare time she enjoys reading and listening to the band her husband drums in all throughout the state of Wisconsin.
