NEW GLARUS — The first round of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrived at the New Glarus Home Dec. 28.

According to Erin Francois, executive director, 70 residents and 70 staff received their first of two vaccinations.

“Residents are done — we had a few say no, but (we) are still at a 95% vaccination rate,” Francois said. “We are vaccinating staff in waves. I’d say we are about 68% done with our staff, because of some of the unknowns about immune response.”

The New Glarus Home, like others in the area, are partnering with Walgreens Pharmacy through a government program to administer the vaccine. The second of the two-dose vaccination should arrive toward the end of January. At that time, any staff or new residents that have not begun the vaccination process will be able to get their first dose.
