MONROE — Main Street Monroe has announced its next Facebook LIVE! shopping Thursday, April 9 at Max’s Threads. This will be Main Street’s third online shopping event after House to Home Designs and Toy Haus participated. The sessions are part of Main Street’s strategy to assist businesses in the Historic Main Street District deemed “non-essential” under Gov. Tony Evers’ “Safer at Home” order.
“Our role is to support all the businesses within the district. This is obviously an unprecedented time, and we’re adapting like everyone,” said Jordan Nordby, executive director of Main Street Monroe. “Our goal is to follow the intent of the order, not look for loopholes or confuse the process, because the health and safety of our community is top priority.”
With health in mind, Main Street LIVE! shopping nights allow store owners to highlight dozens of different items in a fun way. Anyone watching (live or replay) can comment and purchase items shown. Comments are responded to by Nordby and Main Street volunteers from the safety of their homes. Main Street invoices the orders, covers all credit card transaction fees and helps arrange contactless delivery of purchased items.
The hour-long Toy Haus event resulted in 30 orders placed that night and 2,500 unique views by Saturday. All orders were received by Sunday evening, which Nordby notes is a great turnaround time.
Nordby said the community response has been overwhelmingly positive.
In addition to Facebook LIVE!, Nordby said Main Street is helping businesses with loan programs and grants, promoting restaurants, disseminating information from the City of Monroe, coordinating rent assistance with property owners and creating additional support programs.
Interested shoppers for Thursday’s event can RSVP on Main Street’s Facebook page. Max’s Threads sells women’s and men’s clothing; with women’s being the focus this week. New spring merchandise will be highlighted; including accessories. Comments will be responded to in real time and viewers can request to see certain types of items.
