County reminds parents to keep teens at home
coronavirus covid-19

LAFAYETTE COUNTY — Lafayette County Health Department is advising parents to keep their preteens and teens at home. In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, preteens and teens need to be practicing the same safety instructions as adults in order to stay healthy and prevent the spread of illness.

Youth should avoid social gatherings with people of all ages, including sleepovers, parties, visitors in the home, etc.; frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water; covering coughs and sneezes; not touching of the face including eyes, nose and mouth; clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in household common areas, tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks.

Preteens and teens are just as susceptible to COVID-19 as adults. Although symptoms may be milder in younger people, they can still spread the illness to others. Additionally, some preteens and teens may be at higher risk for severe illness, for example, those with underlying medical conditions and special healthcare needs.
