In solemn observence of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. The inscription on the plaque below the steelwork says, “This artifact is part of the World Trade Center south tower. It was recovered in October 2001 and is presented to the Monroe Fire Department in recognition of the service of the emergency responders, who protect the Monroe community.” This steel was recovered from the World Trade Center after Sept. 11, 2001, courtesy of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and is displayed in front of Monroe City Hall in memory of the 2,752 victims.
