The coal-fired Milwaukee Road train shown here traveling south of Monticello on a regular basis was referred to by local people in the early 1950’s as “The Limburger Special.”  It undoubtedly hauled many pounds of that great tasting, sweet smelling cheese out of Green County to customers near and far. There is a rumor that someone once wrote a song dedicated to the memory of that historic train.  (Photo courtesy of Ralph Hammerly)
