Taken in 1939, this photo depicts Rudy Burkhalter, far right, with a group of young people with accordions and one guitar player. Burkhalter owned a music store in Monroe and taught accordion classes in New Glarus and other communities in Green County; at one time he had over 200 students. The woman on the left is his wife, Frances, who assisted with classes. The guitar player may be Margaret Wild, who was later a member of the Edelweiss Stars singing group. This photo and many more can be found in the New Glarus and Green County collection at the Wisconsin Digital Collection, uwdc.library.wisc.edu/collections/wi/newglarus. The New Glarus Historical Society, Inc. was founded in 1938 to not only preserve the unique history of New Glarus but to share it through the Swiss Historical Village & Museum that it owns and operates.
