With the holiday season approaching, the Green County Historical Society (GCHS) Museum is once again discounting its trilogy of picture books of Monroe from years past. These books each have over 100 pages of photos on quality, shiny paper taken long ago, some from turn of the century glass negatives. They are available already wrapped for the perfect Christmas gift for the history buff or anyone who has roots in the community. The books are sold for $20 on the GCHS website or at the museum on Monday mornings. Call Linda Lostetter at 608-558-0175 or the museum at 608-324-4676 and leave a message. They can be picked up, mailed, or delivered locally. Other local historical books are also for sale.
GCHS’s annual Christmas fundraising décor sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22-23 and 29-30 at the museum, 1617 9th Street, next to Stop-N-Go. For sale are a variety of gently used Christmas decorations and gifts. The photo books (pictured) and others will be available for purchase during the sale.
The museum is working on a “Boomer” display with 1960s to the present. GCHS is looking for a Monroe High School dress blue band uniform, portable record player, penny loafers and other teenage remembrances. Contact the museum or Lostetter.
