A cheesemaker utilizing a hand crank cream separator to remove some butterfat from the milk used in making Swiss cheese. The hand crank separators were first patented in the U.S. in the mid to late 1800s. The cheesemaker’s wife probably saved some of that sweet cream to top off the pumpkin pie that they will enjoy on Thanksgiving Day in November.
