Green County is no stranger to train derailments. This is an image from a Chicago, Milwaukee and St Paul train derailment known as the Richland derailment. This derailment would have happened in the area of County K and Richland Road southeast of Monroe. The image was taken facing west, in the distance you can see the old wooden bridge that used to be on Five Corners Road.

This photo is from the Green County Historical Society archives. Any photos you might have of any local derailments, would be appreciated by the Society museum. We are still looking for 60-70-80s memorabilia. Please call 324-4676.

An upcoming event co-sponsored by the Historical Society, and the Green County Genealogy Society will be “The Victorian Undertaker” program on April 22, 2023 at 18 & 8th Event Center, at 1802 8th Street, beginning at 9 a.m. with coffee and refreshments. A light lunch will be included with $30 admission. Information at info@greencogenealogywi.org.
