The Monroe Common Council voted to purchase a “Flivver squad” in 1931 for the Monroe Police Department. The two-door Ford Model T Sedan, sometimes called a “flivver” was purchased for $499.62 and was the first car the department had before previously using a motorcycle. The car was to be dark, appropriately lettered in gold and with a siren. Alderman Charles Kohli, said he “recently drove a flivver 70 mph and the car will be sufficiently speedy for any work it may be called upon to do.” Any comments about the Flivver or questions about the Green County Historical Society may be directed to Linda Lostetter at lostetter68@gmail.com.
