This photo, dated December 1965, is of English teacher Helen Haldiman and student Karen Grunder in a classroom decorated for Christmas in the former Monticello High School building. The red brick three-story school building was constructed in 1913 and demolished in 1980. 

Helen B. Haldiman was born July, 12, 1917 in Monroe, the daughter of Simon and Elise (Mueller) Roethlisberger. She graduated from Zentner Rural School, Monticello High School, Green County Normal School, and the U.W. Platteville with a BS degree in education.

She married Fred G. Haldiman on Sept. 12, 1944 in Monticello. 

Helen taught at rural schools in Green County for ten years and also taught Jr. High English in Monticello for twenty years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, Alpha Delta Gamma Sorority, Green County Retired Teachers Association, NBA and W.E.A. For more information, go to www.
