On August 9, 1965, 60 years ago last week, these six young Monroe area men, after early enlistment, left Monroe for a new experience with the Marine Corps of the United States. The square was filled with a large delegation of family and friends as the boys left Monroe on the Badger bus bound for boot camp. They are Jim Ambrose, Ron Schmid, Craig Winkler, Chuck Gable, Jon Lisser and Roger Blum. As one of the delegation, Linda Lostetter remembers following the bus to Monticello, with horns blowing and waving out the windows. “It was a bittersweet day,” she said. Separately, the Green County Humane Society would like to thank all those that attended the Garden Walk in July.
