Teresa and Ric Joranlien, owners of Hawk’s Mill Winery, talk about their best friends golden doodles 5-year-old Yankee and 3-year-old Marnie.
Ric used to raise golden retrievers, but wasn’t a fan of the constant shedding, so Teresa got him Yankee for his birthday. Later on, they got Marnie from Teresa’s brother Todd Broge.
Ric said he likes the combination of a golden retriever’s friendliness and a poodle’s intelligence.
“They’ve become our winery dogs,” Teresa said.

Describe Yankee and Marnie’s personalities.
Yankee is very friendly. She’s more independent and laid back. She’s very calm. She would make a good therapy dog.
Marnie has a short attention span. She’s high-strung. Initially, when we got her she had a lot of separation anxiety.
They both just want to please.
What do you like to do together?
They love to be outside and swim in the pond. They love to run the vineyards. They stick around when we work outside. They like to greet customers and ride in the Rangers. They also like to beg for food from customers.
What has it been like having Yankee and Marnie in your lives?
I can’t imagine not having them around. They’re a big source of entertainment and a lot of love.
