Shana Davis talks about her best friend Wilson, a 2-year-old dachshund.

Davis has had pets throughout her life and wanted to get a dog. Her husband Cameron was hesitant to agree since the couple already has three rescue cats. She was able to convince him when a friend of his posted dachshund puppies on Facebook.

Now, Davis doesn’t like to leave Wilson behind and refers to him as her baby.

Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest someone for the series, contact Marissa Weiher, photographer, at photo@themonroetimes.com.

Describe Wilson’s personality.

He can be very stubborn and hyper. He does what he wants which is why we’re taking classes together. It helps keep his focus. I think everyone should do obedience classes. He has a bunch of buddies in class he gets to meet up with. He’s a little stubborn when he meets new dogs but he’s still quite young. He’s a wild child though. Even though he’s so small, he has such a big personality.

What do you and Wilson like to do together?

He likes to do lots of tricks. He goes for bike rides and moped rides and rides in a dog carrier backpack. I don’t like leaving him alone. He’s my child. I take him everywhere. I have a convertible Volkswagen Beetle he likes to ride in. We go for walks and we constantly are having puppy play dates with my friends and family.

What has it been like having Wilson in your life?

An absolute joy. I can’t imagine life without him. I would be lost without any pets. I love having animals and cuddling and taking care of them. He keeps me on my toes.
