Ian Berg, 10, a member of the Young Americans 4-H Club, talks about his best friend E.B., a 1-year-old Easter egger chicken.

Berg has been caring for chickens for about a year. One day, he and his mother, Kim, stopped at the Cluck Store in Paoli. He wanted to get an Easter egger chicken because of their ability to lay green, blue or pink eggs.

Berg says he not sure why E.B., a name he got from the movie “Hop,” is his favorite, but she is.

Berg will be taking E.B. along with some of his other chickens to the Green County Fair to show.

Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest someone for the series, contact Marissa Weiher, photographer, at photo@themonroetimes.com.

Describe E.B.’s personality.

She’s hungry. She likes walking around with everyone else and eating with Harriet, one of the other chickens.

What do you and E.B. like to do together?

I mostly just like to watch her and the other chickens. It’s like chicken TV, especially if they go up on the deck. I can see them from the living room while sitting on the couch.

What has it been like having E.B. in your life?

She brings a lot of entertainment along with the rest of the chickens. It’s also given me some responsibilities. I wake up every morning and make sure they have food and fresh water and every weekend I clean out their coop. I’m currently taking care of some Silkie chicks that are two weeks old.
