MONROE — The chamber ensemble, Zephyr, will perform at 2 p.m. on May 15 at the Monroe Arts Center.
Zephyr was founded in 2009 by David and Sue Newman. This chamber ensemble specializes in music written for piano and wind instruments. The group includes Kristen Davies (flute), Sue Newman (oboe), Christine Eckel (clarinet), Sarah Gillespie (horn), Andrew Briddell (bassoon), and David Newman (piano).
Each has extensive performing experience in a variety of ensembles and in a wide range of performing venues. By concentrating on repertoire written for winds and piano, Zephyr seeks to present less familiar yet remarkable works which are, sadly, often overlooked. The performance being offered at MAC is just such an example. It will feature two Romantic masterpieces, Antonin Dvořák’s Sextet in D Minor, Op.44 and Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet in B flat, Op. 6. It is sure to be an experience that delights both the experienced and occasional concert goer alike.
General admission tickets to this extraordinary afternoon of musical excellence by Zephyr are $10 for General Admission and $5 for students 18 years of age and under. Members of the Monroe Arts Center can attend the concert free of charge. Tickets may be purchased online at monroeartscenter.com, by calling 608-325-5700, or in person at the box office located at 1315 11th Street.
There are “No Parking” signs on 14th Avenue in front of MAC due to the Monroe Utility Project. Parking is permitted when no road construction is active. Street parking on 14th Avenue will be available for events in the evening and on weekends throughout the construction period which is scheduled to last through August.
