Zen series begins Wednesday

MONROE - The Great Plains Zen Center, W7762 Falk Road, Monroe, will be hosting a lecture series this summer, starting with the first lecture at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 22. The Rev. Genmyo Smith, from the Prairie Zen Center, Champaign, Ill., will present "Appreciate Your Life." Future lectures are as follows:

- Saturday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m.: Dr. David Kaiun Beighley, "Walking the Buddha's Path to Recovery from Addiction"

- Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m.: Matt Shingetsu Hellige, "Practice of Mindful Cooking"

- Wednesday, June 29 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.: Dr. Jim Palmer, "Creek Connections"

- Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m.: Rev. John Gendo Wolff, "Following the Fragrant Grasses: Zen Writing Workshop"

- Friday, July 1 at 7 p.m.: Dr. Dennis Lishka, "Writings of Zen Master Takuan"
